Jonatan Spang is back! Unfortunately, so is Donald Trump, who, with his ongoing plans to take over world domination, has put the Danish Realm under pressure to such an extent that Mette is now dancing to the sound of Múte's flute. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is trying to buy influence in European politics, where Lars Boje, with his new party, is now courting the controversial billionaire. Fortunately, we still have our hypocritical government parties, Løkke's linguistic dodges, and Aula to place our trust in.
In a week where the debate about Greenland has begun to create cracks in the Danish Realm, Jonatan Spang puts Greenlandic politicians under the microscope — politicians who want both independence and Danish-funded welfare. Meanwhile, we naively turn a blind eye to foreign powers' presence in our waters, the police are whitewashing cases in true New Public Management style, and the government wants to spend massive amounts on Danish defense, making an American arms deal look tempting.
In this week’s Tæt på sandheden, Jonatan Spang sends his reporter to a tractor protest to gauge the mood following a favorable deal with the government. Meanwhile, he takes the temperature of tongue-tied politicians who now have to prioritize the ever-increasing mink compensation for an industry that’s not so dead after all. He also drops by Christiansborg to test whether the politicians can figure out how to sort their trash.
This week’s episode starts at DR, where a careless approach to facts is costing credibility in a time of rightward shifts and growing distrust. And while a new world order has shaken Europe, the Danish government is trying to jumpstart a defense effort that, to put it mildly, is dragging its feet. There’s good news for mink farmers, though, who seem to be getting the best of both worlds, and a wolf alert in Oksbøl has sparked yet another round of fact-resistant politics.
In this week’s episode, Jonatan Spang takes you through the latest news, beginning with the government’s continued faith in the U.S. as an ally and its open invitation to American troops. We then touch on the fall of the majority government with yet another Moderate MP going independent, before moving on to the Danish Armed Forces’ carte blanche to spend billions despite a questionable procurement track record. Finally, we end at the race for artificial intelligence, where Minister for Digitalization Caroline Stage weighs in with H.C. Andersen and hygge.
Jonatan Spang guides you through the week’s news, where a wild meeting at the White House jolted the EU awake, and hopefully signaled a comeback for the hot dog stand. Still, some American tones are echoing in Denmark, where Alex Vanopslagh has dusted off the saw, while the Minister for Employment is facing backlash for treating adopted children as poorly as immigrants. Fortunately, we have the magical råderum, the ever-reliable budgetary wiggle room that keeps funding the government’s plans. But what exactly is it?
In a week where the election in Greenland ended up being about everything but Trump, the strained Danish Realm might once again bloom like a loveless marriage after an affair. Trump no longer wants to flirt with NATO either, leaving Europe home alone. But where does that leave us? And is Peter Viggo even afraid of anything? Meanwhile, Jonatan takes a closer look at the Danish state’s business ventures, now culminating in a billion-kroner envelope-closing fiasco at PostNord.
While World War III is breathing heavily down our necks, efforts to lure Danish soldiers into service are limping along with the world’s smallest carrot. Security, on the other hand, is not lacking, yet we've just received our third “security package,” based largely on the police’s sixth sense. Meanwhile, the climate’s savior emerges from a rather unexpected corner, and ATP has made some questionable investments on behalf of us all.
In a week where the long, broken arm of the law once again flushes legal principles down the toilet, IT robots have apparently become the newest scapegoat in the state’s illegal property tax fiasco. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is busy driving out the few smart minds still left in the U.S., and the Moderates have held either a party congress or a book fair - assuming there’s even a difference.
In a week where the Greenland saga gained yet another American PR stunt, the Danish Realm was finally united against a common, bumbling enemy. While Jarlov tries to tell Mr. President where to put the furniture, the Home Guard seems to be the last line of defense between Denmark and Putin—until the military manages to procure both ships and sports bras. On the bright side, we can look forward to all the exciting purposes our bomb shelters will serve - besides protection - during these thrilling times of crisis.
The season’s final episode begins with Trump’s announcement of random tariff rates that sent shockwaves through the financial world, as if it were a bad prank, all while a huge news story flew under the radar the government wants to turn a dystopian sci-fi novel into reality. One can’t find comfort in the news about district heating customers being taken hostage in the green transition - but on the other hand, the elderly can eat their fill of empty initiatives.
