Featuring ingenious stage tricks and surprising elements, the productions of the Cia. de Revistas Walter Pinto were box-office hits. Walter Pinto banked on the grandeur of the revue format and employed specific strategies to draw audiences to these spectacular shows.

The Teatro Experimental do Negro (Black Experimental Theater) emerged in the 20th century with the innovative aim of valuing Afro-Brazilian culture, experimenting with theatrical styles, and, above all, training Black actors. Founded by Abdias Nascimento, the TEN was revolutionary for Brazilian theater.

The Cia. Maria Della Costa was a major project in modern Brazilian theater. Breaking away from traditional, more conservative theater, actress Maria Della Costa brought renowned playwrights and directors to her company, creating one of the finest repertoires in Brazilian theater.

Emerging during a vibrant period for theater, the Grupo Opinião was founded to voice its views, driven by a powerful political agenda. In the 1980s, the group ‘Asdrúbal trouxe o Trombone’ launched a generation of young talents, such as Regina Casé, Luiz Fernando Guimarães, and Evandro Mesquita. By managing and directing a performance venue, Teatro dos 4 committed to continuous production and artistic quality, becoming the leading Rio-based reference for commercial theater in the 1980s.
