Family doctor Maja Križaj relocates with her family from Ljubljana to the rural village of Velika vas after her husband’s financial collapse. Though the setting seems idyllic, the countryside reveals unexpected challenges. The series blends everyday struggles with warmth, humor, and romantic entanglements.

Franc Vovk's term as mayor is coming to an end, and the race for a new mayor is beginning in Velika Vas. His wife Irena decides to run for office. Doctor Maja Križaj helps Janez Berger, a newcomer with a holiday home in the village who has fallen ill. New changes are on the horizon for the already complicated relationships within the Vovk and Križaj families. Nadja Vihar, the director of the municipal administration, wants to talk to Mayor Franc about her professional future.

Irena feels betrayed and deeply resents Franc for refusing to unequivocally take her side. While reading a book, Maja's son Rok meets a new friend, Petra, who is just as passionate about environmental issues as he is. After talking to his mother Maja, he channels his anxieties about climate change into a new hobby. While out for a walk with her daughter Izabela, Irena looks around an old, dilapidated hotel that holds memories for her. Nadja brings some new friends to the Pr' Vovk inn.

When the roof of Katri's house collapses, the people of Velika Vas come to her aid, though some have motives of their own. Irena offers Katri shelter and reminisces about the past while putting away Simon's toys. Nadja also offers her a place to stay and borrows a game console from Gregor to cheer up Katri's children. The men from the inn pitch in to repair Katri's roof as well. Meanwhile, the local youngsters take over an old hotel and turn it into a space where they can meet and organize their activities.

Irena and Nadja each try in their own way to convince voters that she is the best candidate. Irena asks her son Simon for help. Although he is torn over whom to support in the mayoral election, he agrees to help promote her campaign. While out running, Nadja meets Ajda and Barbara, two newcomers to the village, and invites them over. Barbara offers her the support of her influential husband. Izabela and Tadej's passionate kissing is interrupted by a call from Franc, who needs help because he cannot find his car after a doctor's appointment. The local youngsters decide that it is time for their voices to be heard.
