The Sanctity of Life

Medical doctor Dr. Tommy Mitchell addresses the difficult issue of death and suffering. Why do disease, war, and disaster claim countless lives? How could a loving God allow people we love to suffer and die? For that matter, why did Jesus Christ have to suffer and die? Are we just pawns in a cosmic struggle between good and evil? What does the Bible say about the cause of death and suffering? Here you will find the answers and…who is to blame.

This presentation deals with real-world concerns facing Christians today. As churches seek to help hurting people and to bear the burdens of others, what answers do we have for those contemplating suicide and those affected by it? What does Scripture say? Euthanasia as a way out of physical and even emotional pain is growing in popularity around the world. What does the Bible have to say about it as a “merciful” way to end pain? Dr. Mitchell’s long experience in the practice of medicine gives him a unique perspective with regard to both of these difficult and emotional topics.

A tragic chapter in American history began in the early 1900s with the rise of the eugenics movement. Many prominent philanthropists, scientists, and politicians believed the human race was degrading because the poor, sick, and deformed were medically cared for and therefore survived to reproduce. Because of their acceptance of molecules-to-man evolution, these cultural leaders pushed for laws to enforce sterilization and isolation of the “undesirables.” Margaret Sanger embraced these ideas, which were foundational in her establishment of Planned Parenthood.

The eugenics movement lost momentum when it was associated with the horrors of the Nazi regime, but it did not die. Instead, it became “quiet and careful.” A resurgence of eugenics is brewing in America today, and modern Planned Parenthood still advocates many eugenic ideals. As Christians, it is our responsibility to view life from God’s perspective and to defend all of those who are created in His image. No matter how impaired a human life may seem, every person has value because they are made in God’s image.

When can a human embryo be considered a human being? Is it really just a blob of cells? Is humanness merely an anatomical achievement? And are we morally bound to protect the unborn? If so, when? When does a developing baby become worthy of protection? Abortion is legal, but is biblically permissible? Where do we turn for these answers? Dr. Tommy Mitchell presents many different viewpoints and compares those conclusions with the Word of God.

This portion deals with some of the most controversial issues in today’s world. The stem cell debate rages in our society. Aren’t stem cells good? Don’t Christians want to help sick people? What is the problem with embryonic stem cells? What exactly is cloning? How are these moral questions? A Christian’s response to these questions should be based not only on a clear understanding of the science but also a firm grasp on scriptural principles. Here you find sound biblical answers.

In this 2-part illustrated lecture, anatomist Dr. David Menton follows the marvelous embryological development of the human body in a progressive sequence from ovulation, the movement of the egg in the oviduct, fertilization, implantation, development of the placenta and finally the birth process itself. There are countless critical and precisely integrated steps in this sequence that are essential for the very survival of man and all mammals.
