Andrey Konchalovsky's project "Burden of Power" is about unpopular decisions of heads of state and political figures in power. The heroes of the cycle "Burden of power" can not be called fighters for liberal ideas, but they paradoxically had a huge impact on the fate and development of their countries.

"I am very interested in documentaries. It has a different function than the artistic one. I can Express my thoughts directly here. In documentaries, I speak in the first person, and I am responsible for my words. I am seriously concerned with the relationship between power and culture. The "Burden of power"series is about people who are most often perceived from the point of view of cliches ("Secretary of the Central Committee"," dictator"), and little thought is given to what role they played in the life of the nation."

The film about Heydar Aliyev is part of Andrey Konchalovsky's cycle "the Burden of power" about the great politicians of the twentieth century. This cycle began with a film about Yuri Andropov. It was Andropov who promoted Heydar Aliyev as a politician, because he saw him as a close associate in the upcoming reform of the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, the story followed a different scenario: the USSR collapsed, and Heydar Aliyev was thrown out of politics. But he managed to return to it as a winner, overcome the turmoil, become the President of Azerbaijan, and give his people confident guidelines for moving into the future.
The cold war is long gone. Uncle Sam with a bomb in his hand and an evil Bolshevik with a hammer and sickle are now only bright pictures from history textbooks. The Russians are no longer trying to smuggle nuclear warheads into Cuba, the Americans are no longer Napalm-burning the Communist threat in Vietnam, the Soviet Politburo is no longer ordering troops into Afghanistan to establish a loyal government. The two superpowers have long since stopped tearing the planet apart, and thank God. But have they stopped?
